-What can you do besides surf the net?
-How is the online speed?
-Can you run roms?
-How functional is the PS3 controller?

I put Fedora 9 on my PS3 a week or so ago, but didn't play with it much. Putting it on is a bit of a hassle - you've got to back up the drive to an external USB drive, reformat the PS3 drive, use a special boot disc to load the bootloader, then actually install the Linux distro. It was rather awkward to use a mouse and keyboard on the couch.

The PS3 only has 256mb of system RAM, and doesn't have direct access to the GPU hardware in Linux. There's an upper limit to what you can do.

I installed either Ubuntu or Yellow Dog Linux, I forget which. It took a long time to boot... I haven't touched it since the first time I booted into linux.

i installed it just for kicks. i installed Yellow Dog Linux's PS3 distro, since I've heard that it doesn't have enough ram to run gnome/kde.
