Nah, I disagree. If that were the case the installation wouldn't be that difficult, and most likely posted at the place he got it from AND in a readme of the download...I don't think steam would even come into the picture with a pirated version? Maybe I am wrong?

Google has some answers.

If you buy it, then download the warez version...then you're a good little boy, and no one will think any less of you.

But, having said that, why buy L4D if you don't have an internet connection?

I think a better question is how will you get the warez version :)

Why buy Left4Dead if you're going to play single player? Trust me, if you just bought it for single player, you shouldn't have paid more than $5 for it.

I remember having dial up when I first got Half Life 2. I was forced to install steam and download all the updates with it. It also wouldn't work in offline mode, so I could only play it when nobody needed to use the phone.

Return the game, Left 4 Dead is really a multiplayer only game. Single player is only good for messing around and learning how the game works.

Certainly good advice; however, we could also ask what business a company has selling a boxed version of a game that requires online activation. Wouldn't it avoid any confusion if games that require an Internet connection were released exclusively on the Internet?

Why bother? Reading the box isn't that bloody hard, and considerable bandwidth and time can be saved with physical media. Not to mention we have people out there who just want to have a disc.

Those are fair points; however, they could make the Internet Required warning a little bit larger and a little bit more conspicuous, assuming that they are not attempting to make sales to customers who have no Internet connection...

This is so true, lol. I didn't even think about that.

If one is not going to look at the system requirements as is, I doubt font size is going to make a lot of difference.

I was thinking more along the lines of a big, fat red sticker on the front of the box, but point taken.

Offline mod works in this fine, but you have to connect to the internet to download all the updates once before you can set steam to run offline. And that takes for god damn ever on dialup. Trust me, I know. However, it plays fine after you get past that part.

You could drag your PC to your friends house who has broadband, or suffer over a dialup connection for awhile.
