I setup a VNC on my home computer and now im at school and i guess the right version of java isint installed to access the VNC....cause all I see is a box with a red X in it. I dont have administrator rights on this computer to install the Java, is there anyway I can do it?
 
I have realvnc installed...its still a JAVA http server......

and I dont think the network admin will do it, even though im an aide

Is there any VNC servers that host non-java servers?
 
Agreed. Not only the wrong forum, but the wrong place to ask.

The administrator or group of administrators are the parties to ask. If the administrator has specifically constructed obstacles to the action you are attempting (yes, no adminstrative rights in indeed an obstacle), chances are there is a reason.

Recent, similar thread (you'll notice it was locked).

Thats the thing....the correct java has been installed on like every other computer in the schoo....its just that the image for the computers in this room apparently didnt have java on them.

Then talk to the admins to see about getting that rectified. They might have a very good reason for not allowing it.

Which portion of "contact the network administrator" is difficult to understand? If you have a legitimate problem, they are paid (literally) to help you.

alright, Ill ask him.... but accessing my VNC server cant harm their network can it? Its just me controlling my comptuer at home, not theirs.

Try UltraVNC. I am pretty sure that you can run the viewer (non-java) without installing it. Plus, it has lots of nice features that other VNC apps do not.
 
For the record: java has nothing to do with the vnc server. It just so happens that they have a client written in java that you can use from a webbrowser (an http server delivers the java applet, but that's it). Is it really so hard to get the normal client running on these machines?
 
no no no, the prob isint the viewer... I have the RealVNC server set up so it hosts a java server.... so all i do is type in htttp://myip:5901 and login to the VNC thing thru java.....but these computers dont have updated java on them I guess
