Installing Intel Heat Sink

Should it feel like I'm about to snap the motherboard in half while installing the Core 2 Duo E6300 stock heatsink on my Asrock 4Coredual-VSTA motherboard?

No. It should take a little pressure on each plastic "pin", but not that much. Make sure they're not twisted the wrong way.

Should I install the heatsink in or out of the case?

Out of the case is always easier, and if you're having trouble that's an easy way to solve the problem. However, the stock HSF shouldn't technically need to be mounted before mobo insertion.

If you place the HSF mounting pins in the proper mounting setting (look at the arrows and make sure that the black pins are above the "squeezable" snap-on parts) it should feel kinda like installing the RAM modules.

Steadily increase the pressure until you hear a click - then do the same with the pin on the opposite side (like tightening the lug nuts in the car LOL). Repeat the procedure with the remaining 2 pins.

Make sure that you are aiming properly into the holes in the motherboard - the measurements are pretty tight, and it is relatively easy to miss the MB holes.
