HEllo,
I'm trying to create server computer with 2 NIC's and a hub and modem but havving diffuculty ** Cable line is fine and works when it is solely Lynksys Router HUb and Toshiba** But I decided it would be better to try it another way
My configuration is:
NYC Time Warner RR
Toshiba 1100USB Cable modem
HP Ethernet Card 100MB
Dlink Ethernet card 100 MB
Lynksys 4 Port Router Hub
P3 600
Windows 2000 (if this dont work... can I use Unix/Linux?? Instead if it is better)
1 IP address
I am trying to set up a server with this computer to connect the Pentium 3 to a HUB to the rest of my computers(LAN)
Its configuration is
[internet] - {Toshiba Modem} - PENTIUM 3 - (Lynksis 4 Port router/hub) - < 4 other PC's>
I cannot get the system to work.
The HP NIC card is the INTERNET card (connected to Toshiba modem) **Only TCP/IP** is enabled everything else is off
The DLink NIC card is the LAN card (connected to the Lynksys 4 Port router) ** Has File sharing - TCP/IP - Microsoft Client - NetBiuo Protocol** and a MANUAL IP number is written (basic windows IP I guess)
Now this is where it goes down hill. Both are Enabled, HP is connected to the Toshiba Modem and the DLink is connected to the Lynksys hub.
I am SUPPOSED to have internet connection by now. Because I'm supposed to obtain a IP adress automatically with the Toshiba modem and already have a manual IP for the Dlink. But I cannot connect to the internet at all. Am I doing something wrong?? I believe the problem is my Lynksys BEFSR41 4 Port DSL/Cable Router BLOCKING the Dlink with the NETBUIS protocol (since NetBous IS UNROUTEABLE) I am not certain. Any one with experience about this subject please just chime in. OR do I have to resort to a HUB (Only) to make this work because the router is causing issues. Thanks.
