Installing Harddrive, Plz help.

OK, my friend's harddrive broke, so he got another one. Unfortunately, his cdroms can't boot the operating system.

What i did is, attach his new harddrive as a slave to mine. My computer detects it, but his harddrive isn't partitioned yet, so it doesn't appear as a drive letter in my computer. How do I get his drive to work??

put the drive back in to your friends PC. Make sure that the jumper is set to master. Boot into BIOS (hit DEL as you boot up). In bios, make the first boot device CD ROM. Put in the XP CD and reboot. Now the system will boot from the CD.

That's the problem. He has an old mobo, and even though his harddrive is set to boot first, it doesn't work. I need to get his harddrive to work from my computer.
