Installing External Modem through parallel on Linux

Unfortunately, my laptop uses a WinModem, and I want to run linux. I have linux Redhat installed and it works great, only problem is that I can't access the Internet.

I found an older 14.4bps Practical Peripherals parallel port modem in some old junk and decided to see if I could get it to work in linux.

I realize that I should first go to PP's web site and look for linux drivers, but how do I actually go about configuring the modem in RedHat?? (gnome)

I could use the help.

Parallel port? That's an odd way to connect a modem. Are you sure it's not a serial port?

Either way, hardware modems of any kind do not need drivers, regardless of what OS is used. I've never used a modem under Linux, but this page might help.

it's mainly a matter of telling linux which port the modem is connected to. I was always partial to kppp for modem dialing
