Installing BOINC

I want to install BOINC on a few more computers in my fleet. I don't want to re-enter the settings on each computer such as the project info. Is there a file or some way to copy this information to each new installation to save time and make life with VNC a little easier?

As far as I know you just have to Attach to the projects manually. All the other settings it pulls down when you connect. But if you're trying to not have to Attach, then I'm not sure.

In the BOINC folder is a file for the projects you are attached to. At the end of the BOINC instal uncheck the block to start BOINC. Then copy over the file for that project. When you start BOINC it should be attached to that project. I am pretty sure the file name has the project in it and it is an XML file. Hope this helps

To "attach" to the same project on many computers, just "attach" on one, and copy the file account_project-url.xml to the other computers and re-start BOINC on these, if you're installed as service this is easily done remotely.

Example for SETI@Home, account_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml

Oh, and if you wants to remove a project, just delete account_project-url.xml and re-start BOINC client.

As for installing BOINC on many computers easily, look at http://boinc.berkeley.edu/win_install.php

Thanks Rattledagger for the info - I was wandering myself how to make the installations simple when assimilating some office computers: obtained permission run BOINC on a few. 😉

Not very obvious how to use ORCA but now that I know how ... it was simple and I've used a transformed MSI to distribute all of my Clients via Active Directory ...

I've even modified the install package to correctly install the optimized BOINC client ...

I was able to add 75+ clients with about 5 minutes of effort, for example.

Let me know if I can be of assistance ...
