Installing AMD Athlon 64 Cooler Set.

I'm installing the Heatsink unit on a AMD Athlon 64 3000+.
So far I have installed the heatsink on the processor and the retention clip is firmly attached to the tabs on both sides.I'm having difficulty rotating the lever to the down position. The lever is made of plastic and I dont want to use too much pressure.
Any suggestions?

What lever? The one locking the chip into place? If so, you need to disengage the HS retention clip, put the lever down and reengage the retention clip.

The lever moves the chip as you swing it, and it sounds like your heat sink is (correctly) holding the processor in place.

It's likely you'll need new thermal compound between the chip and HS.

No, he's most likely talking about the plastic arm on one side of the heatsink retention clip. Athlon64 heatsinks attach to the base bracket in much the same fashion that older Socket370 and Socket A heatsinks did, albeit with the aid of a (usually plastic) arm attached which helps you lock it in place, instead of having to use a screwdriver to pry it on & off.

Problem is, when that arm is made of plastic it feels extremely flimsy and really does feel like it could snap clean off at any moment. I call poor design on this, they really should use a metal arm or go with clips on both sides of the heatsink like the standard P4 heatsink mounting mechanism.

Thanks for clarifying. Is this specific to 939 boards, or A64 in general?
