Installing A64 proc quick question

If you put it on dry you will likely own an Athlon64 for all of about 65 seconds, which will be the time it takes for the CPU to start smoking and catch on fire. thermal paste is a MUST.
 
Gotcha thanks I figured hehe already put it on just to make sure should I put a whole tube of it on so far I think I put 3/4 and it was pretty much covered.

actually ,leave it dry. the stock hs(coems in retail box) already comes with a heat pad. adding some extra tim might slow down thermal transfer due to increased volume/mass. if i were you, id take off the pad and wash the hs and chip with alcohol and then reapply as5 now. applying too much also slows thermal transfer and decreases effiency.
 
are you going to use AS5? if so becareful and only use a small 3/4 BB size in center of the cpu...DO NOT spread a thin layer...go to Artic silver website for instructions
 
It's an OEM processor...how would I go about removing it if I already applied it and want to redo it now? What happens if I apply more than the required amount?

Wow, I'm not sure if you started this thread as a joke.

If the heatsink already came with a thermal pad attached, no compound is needed.

If compound needs to be applied, a very thin layer is needed, more is worse.

the layer is supposed to look almost transparent. looks like you slathered it on like toothpaste. way too much. use some 90%or more pure rubbing alcohol and clean it off .the nappyl a bb size pellet in center, make sure theres no pad or take off and clean the hsf with alcohol too and then mash the hsf on it. no spreading at all.

oem proc huh? what hsf did you buy then?
 
Go to the AS5 website and follow their instructions if you have not done so. Every cpu has its own application procedure and I got a -10 improvement on my waterblock when I used just a grain size on it. My prescott was going crazy at 3.5, but finally got it stable at 3.8 with prime95 when I followed their instructions.
