Im planning to put a switch on a 4-pin to 3-pin adapter so i can turn on/off my fan. I'm no electrician, would this mess up my power supply when i turn the fan on and off when the computer is running?? This is what im gonna do, cut the 3-pin wire (as soon as i figure out which one is the ground and which supplies the power), strip the wire, and connect them to the switch. If anyone has done this before, comments would be appreciated. TIA.

People do this all the time and mount the switches in a front 3.5 or 5.25 inch bay, then they call them baybuses. :) Some also use rheostats.

Should have no problem as long as you cover up any bare wires and get a switch that can handle the wattage of the fan.

really pay attention to that. Tape all the wire after your done. Two times wouldn't hurt.
