I just put together an 800 athalon with a K7V MB.
I have a 3C905B-TX
Fast Etherlink XL PCI card.
I downloaded the drivers disc 1 & 2
Whats the best way to unzip them and install them?
I freshly formatted the HD installed audio, video, games, etc. didn't even put the NIC card in yet. the drivers are still on floppys
(I think they are zipped) should I copy them to different directories before clicking them? if I put the card in it will start asking for Disc 1 (which is zipped right now) how do I create install discs? help!!

Which Os are you using? I have that card and Win98SE detected it automatically and used drivers off the cd.

Here is a link http://support.3com.com/infodeli/tools/nic/3c905b/win98401.htm

As for driver extraction from the .exe files, this is straight from their site.

To extract the driver file:

1. Create a folder/directory right off the root of your hard drive (such as C:\3COM)
Note: If the file is embedded several directories deep from the root, or stored in a directory with a Microsoft
Windows 95 long filename, it may not extract completely. A DOS "Write error" may also occur.
2. After copying the file to the folder/directory, execute the extraction:
a. In Windows, double click the file
b. In DOS, type: 3c90xx1.exe (and then press the Enter key)
3. A DOS window should appear with a License Agreement. Type y to accept.
4. After the extraction is finished, go back into the directory
5. The files and folders should now be visible
6. To transfer the files/folders to a floppy disk:
a. Open the folder/directory
b. Select all the files and folders except for the executable file itself (3c90xx1.exe) and copy to the floppy disk

Good Luck :)

I didn't bother with the driver disks either. I'm using the drivers that come with Windows instead and they work just fine.

Yeah, just create a directory on your harddrive and unzip the contents of the 2 disks into that directory. When Windows promote you for the drivers you can just tell it to look in that directory. Or you can just use the drivers that come with Windows as stated in previous posts.
