I wanna put this old HD with win98 on it on my new computer you see and it's got XP on it already. So I connect it and it won't boot to windows, so how can I get it to run. I don't care about win98 if it gets deleted so if there is a way anyone got suggestions? Also don't wanna format if possible. thanks

Slave the second hard drive and make sure that the hard drive that has XP on it is the master drive on the first channel. It'll be easiest that way.

thanks for the reply

You know the drive connection wires, where it splits into two and one is black and the other is gray colored?
Well I got it to work using the black connector, used for my cd-rom drives.

When I use the grey one from my primary HD it would NOT WORK, why is that?
It would not get recognized as a slave and it would display something like:
"IDE Channel Master : SP000011@" and then would not go beyond the first screen.

now I can't use my cdrom drive...

BTW My machine is
P42.8
Radeon 9800
1024MB RAM

The connector on the extreme end has to be connected to the master drive. the centre one is the slave. The connector that is farthermost from the centre connector goes onto your motherboard. asnd it is advisable to connect your Optical devices on another cable plugged into your secondary IDE slot on your motherboard.

Your primary IDE drive with XP on it "master" is set to Cable Select or Single Drive Only. You should have 2 IDE channels on your motherboard capable of operating four devices.

Try this: Set your drive with XP on it to Master and hook it to the Primary IDE channel on the motherboard with the first connector connected to your XP drive. Hook the second drive with Win 98 to the end connector on the cable set to Slave. Hook your IDE CD ROM drive, set to master on the secondary IDE port. You may need a cable to do this.

Post more specs of your system such as motherboard brand/model etc.

I have been trying to set my HD as a slave but it won't work.
But, When I set it up as a second master drive it will work 100%

It kinda looks something like this when its working(that is, I set it up as a new master):

Primary master:Seagate barracuda 80GB(new)
Primary slave:none
Secondary master:Maxtor 30GB(old)
Secondary slave:none

What I wanna do is this:

Primary master:Seagate barracuda 80GB(new)
Primary slave:Maxtor 30GB(old)
Secondary master:none
Secondary slave:none

But when I do that it screws up because it won't go beyond the first screen(bios screen?)

I had to underclock my cpu to 1.4ghz so that it could run the win98 hd. But now I want to uninstall win98 because it's causing alot of the problem I think. How do I uninstall it? Sorry I'm dumb
