I'm trying to install my CPU. I have it facing the correct direction, and as flat as I can. When I close the lever though I have to apply significant pressure, to the point of bending the lever, to get it to close. Is this normal?

Which motherboard/socket? Try reseating the CPU, and I'm assuming you know about the arrows?:)

775? yeah, it's normal. It feels like you're breaking it but you aren't

It's a X58 SLI LE and i7 920. Like I said I can get it closed, but there is significant pressure. I just don't want the thing spontaneously releasing after I put too much pressure on it.

Just make sure the lever is solidly in it's holder, it won't pop out
