Installing a CO detector question

My friend wants me to come over and install a carbon monoxide detector for him this morning. He said it has to be hard wired, that's why he needs my help. I never heard of an aftermarket detector that required it to be tied into the existing electrical system.

Am I missing something here??

It's no problem for me to run a little romex from a junction box to the detector, but WTF??

I've never heard of hard wired ones for home use. CO monitors are best located down low, hence the plug in ones. You could always sacrifice an electrical outlet. (remove the receptacle and mount the detector right on the box)

Cheers!

I thought something was fishy with this. I have never heard of it either, requiring a "do it yourselfer" to do electrical wiring. My friend needs help changing light bulbs for crying out loud. My friends call me David "Villa", LOL, which is a curse because you know who always gets the call for help...
