Hello again. I have a dell optiplex 755 sff. I wanted to install a second graphics card if it were possible. I currently have the stock gpu and wanted to install the graphics card that was on my old dell inspiron 530s. Is it possible?

Why don't you tell us why you want multiple gfx cards ?
The system you have only has 1 PCI (might be used) and 1 PCIe, which is already used by the Radeon most likely...

BTW, Conexant RD01-D850 http://www.amazon.com/Conexant-RD01-.../dp/B001P9CZ5S is a PCI modem, NOT a video card, so, no idea what you are trying to do.
I'm trying to add some more video ram so I can do some kind of gaming on my pc. The pci slot is empty. I'm trying to put the "modem" in that slot but I get a "hardware" error when I boot up the pc.

If it's a HD2400, get rid of it and get something better. However, knowing Dell, chances are that they've put a weedy power supply in there that'll probably need upgrading either immediately or in a year or two's time (due to the increased load of a half-decent graphics card). Having two graphics cards in there will increase the load on the power supply drastically.

I doubt that HD2400s can be set up in CrossFire, but even if they could it would be pretty pointless compared to getting a single modern half decent graphics card.

Do you need the modem? If not, lose that as well.

Beside the fact that, that it IS a modem and NOT a video card, and that it has nothing to do with video memory, you can't add VRAM in the way you are trying to do. You need a new video card, and since you have a SFF case, not all vid cards will fit, and you may need a higher wattage PSU as well...

What makes you think you need more VRAM? What game are you trying to play?

That's not how it works. Adding a second video card will not aid your first video card (at least not in this case).

Additionally, the card you're trying to add is not a video card. It is actually used to connect to a phone line and dial up to the internet, it doesn't do video.

^ Incredible that someone actually created that website!

If the OP is serious, he should keep it simple and get an HD6450 for $40 and call it a day. That's probably all his system can handle, and he seems to be new to this.

I am serious. And that card is the only card that came with the inspiron. I'm wondering how that pc got vram?

This is way over the top. When you troll, you should not use technical/advanced terminology such as VRAM. It doesn't fit the narrative that you are building up to, by the earlier trolling path. 0/10 would not troll again.

Analysis of past posts makes me think not troll, just incredibly stupid and should not be poking around inside a PC.

If I had to guess the built in Radeon hd 2400 pro is using shared system memory.

Protip for Moneer: get a job, buy an AlienWare, never touch anything inside it.

Calling members stupid is considered a personal attack and against forum rules.

That's more than a bit harsh. At one point, none of us knew what we presently know about computer hardware. OP is asking questions to further his/her understanding.

Your Inspiron had onboard video - that is, it was built into the motherboard or CPU, and used some system memory. Take a look at where you plugged in the VGA cable. It wasn't into the card you found.

Video card RAM cannot be added, and more RAM doesn't make a video card faster. There's a lot more going on.

I would suggest starting another thread, perhaps in general hardware, asking for some reading material or explanation on all the parts that go into a computer, and what makes them better or worse than others.

Thank you very much sir. I'm actually just starting to learn the anatomy of pc. I thought that the modem was where my inspiron got it's vram since there was no graphics card.

And to those people saying I'm stupid or trolling, no I'm dead serious. And i know the term vram because earlier a user posted using that and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that vram stands for video RAM. And I have been inside a pc and installed some ram and made a sata cable split into two, connection to two current hard drives. I'm not a complete moron.

Do you have a discrete video card that you are planning to install? It sounds like no video card is available to be installed.

However, installing a discrete video card is a fun way to increase the performance of your computer, by disabling the old one that is integrated onto the motherboard and cannot be removed.

So it won't be increasing something. Rather, it will be disabling the old, and replacing with a new one.

The question is how are you going to know what you want? Are you going to choose a dollar amount and upgrade according to a spending limit? Is there a particular year/vintage of games you want to play, and just upgrade the video card according to how fast your CPU is to play a particular game?

In all honesty that video card is really almost obsolete. To slow to play almost any modern game on. Obviously your knowledge of PC hardware is limited. Modern intel chips have a GPU built into the chip. Its nothing special but it is about 4X the performance of your video card. You might want to look into a new computer or build your own. You could prob reuse the case and 300 watt PSU. Need a small motherboard that fits, ram, and CPU. I will assume you do not have a 1080P monitor so that would let you get your feet wet on many games with low settings.

When I first built my setup I overclocked the IGPU and was able to almost play world of tank at 30 FPS @ 1080P.

So, looking into the 775 SFF, they came with Core 2 cpu's, so it sounds like the OP has a discrete 2400 Pro, and tried to install the modem in the PCI slot next to it.

Moneer, when you look at the back of your PC, does the cable going to the monitor plug into the blue square port in the middle of the pc, or one of the vertical slots to the left?

Also, what games do you want to play?

The last thing is, and this is important - that case will only fit low profile video cards. This is going to limit your selection of cards, but here are 3 that will work:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814500343
Nvidia GT 730. This card has 1GB of GDDR5, but only a 64 bit bus.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150682
R7 250 with 1GB GDDR5
This one is a pretty decent step up with more shaders. Not very future proof, 1GB will limit textures on newer games, but it may not be a huge deal on this card, depending on the games you will play. THIS CARD IS A DUAL SLOT DESIGN. Make sure you have an extra expansion slot to the right of your currrent video card, it will take up both slots, but as a bonus you get higher core clocks.

Nvidia GT 240 with 1GB GDDR5. Probably performs pretty closely to the R7 250, but is a single slot card if the AMD won't fit.
