Installer pops up on boot

I'm running XP, and for some reason recently the windows installer pops up during boot. It reads "preparing to install", is up for about 2 seconds, and then disappears. I've been looking around msconfig to try and figure out why this is happening but to know avail.

XP, core 2 duo E6600, 2 gigs of ram, geforce 8800gts

EDIT: Also, it pops up briefly sometimes when I insert a cd/dvd into my optical drive

Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

Thanks for the link to the tool. Is there any way other than trial and error to figure out what the offending program is?

do you have any msiexec entries in the app log?

Where can I find the app log?

I have checked msconfig multiple times, no strange entries. Anything remotely questionable is disabled.
