I was half asleep when I posted that, I meant I won't be able to control my actual system volume with the remote right? Another question for anyone with knowledge, I'm looking at the Dell WJ151 remote, seems like a great remote for the price. Looks like it comes with some funky ass dell only connector. The remote will work with any IR receiver right? I never assume when Dell's involved.

You'd need an IR Blaster or a universal remote like a Harmony.

Dell remote + IR Blaster sounds good, not too expensive either. I'm reading a few thread with people not getting the Dell remotes to work too well under XBMC though :( I'll keep my eye peeled. Harmony + IR Blaster would be pretty pricey.

You don't need both, just Harmony + MCE receiver or MCE Remote + IR Blaster. Harmony is not cheap though. Lowest priced one is the 550 and that's $77 at Amazon.

the MCE receiver costs more than an IR Blaster, from what I'm finding any ways. And the IR Blaster is more capable, the Harmony's are a bit too expensive for me, I have no need to control other things outside the XBMC program. The Dell one I'm looking at seems very sweet, is a relabeled Gyration so it has motion and can be controlled by moving it up, down, left and right. Dunno how accurate it is, but sounds cool to me. Still unable to find any concrete info on how well this sucker works with XBMC though. reading conflicting reports.

Isn't the Gyration remote like $150? Where do you get an IR Blaster anyway. Is it just an electronics project or do people sell them?

the Gyration one is yes, but Ebay has dozens of the Dell one which is the same one for $20-$30, I went on Froogle and looked for USB IR Blaster's, the cheapest is $10. I'm not sure how good the Gyration remote even is, but the price is sweet and it's back lit which is a huge plus.
