Installed SP2, now Explorer freezes when trying to delete files

Everytime I try to delete something in Windows Explorer with the delete key of the red x button, it freezes. I can drag the files to the recycle bin though...does this happen to anyone else?

i had that problem, i felt that it was largely amplified after installing sp2. i searched and searched, i could not find an answer. i did a slipstream install and installed all my apps, then it did it again. i then did a roll back to that install after the drivers, and have been creating lots of restore points since. please post if you come across a fix.

this is an odd question, but... do you have dr divx or and divx programs installed? try uninstalling it. see if that helps, kind of a long shot.

I see that trying to delete bookmarks in IE as well as trying to delete any folder in Favorites.

Just uninstalled Divx. Did not work. The problem is still there for me.

I do have those installed, but I dunno why. The files are video files (mpeg2) and other index files and stuff in the same directory. What's odd is that I can delete stuff from other directories..checking my event log

Hanging application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.

I've had a somewhat similar problem here at work with Service Pack 3 and Windows 2000. Right-clicking on the Start Menu folders would freeze the menu and the right-click menu wouldn't come up for 30-40 seconds.

Well I don't know if that's very related but yeah. 😛

I just noticed that the problem (at least in my case) has gone after I uninstalled Quicktime.

An update: Interesting information I've found in a thread somewhere on the net:

"Turned out to be WebRoot SpySweeper that was causing it. To fix: Go under the "Option" menu of SpySweeper Uncheck "Add sweep for Spyware to windows explorer context menu""

Hope it helps
