I'm trying various browsers and recently installed Opera, maybe made a mistake because:
1. when it installed it made itself the default browser without asking me to approve
2. when I open Chrome, which I've been using for a long time, then it appears that Opera keeps trying to download an .exe file called OperaSetup, and does that whenever I use Chrome and go to a new url.
3. So, I uninstalled Opera
4. when I use Chrome, it continues to attempt to download OperaSetup.exe
5. Have I been infected?
6. I tried to use Task Manager to see if there is a process running that is causing this, but no luck

Can someone help with this please?

I've Opera in the past, and that doesn't sound like the normal behavior.

Are you sure you didn't download a fake / malware infested version? What site did you download it from?

The things that comes to mind here, is that you have a setting in Chrome that re-opens previously-opened tabs, and the last tab that you had open in Chrome was the download URL for Opera, before you closed Chrome to go install Opera.

So now, every time you open Chrome, it hits the download URL, and tries to download it again.
