Hello all,
My system:
Soyo Dragon Plus
AMD XP 1700
Geforce 3
SB Live
256 mb Kingston RAM
Windows XP Home
30g and 20g WD Hard drives
CD and CDR drives
I originally had a 300w power supply that came with the budget case. Since I had been having some minor problems, and I wanted to quiet the system down, I purchased a Antec TruePower 420W power supply. I installed the power supply, and fired up the computer. XP hung as soon as the desktop appeared. I rebooted, then at scandisk, it found many errors, allocation and truncation problems. It again hung on the desktop. Rebooted, it found a whole bunch more problems during scandisk. So I wiped the drive, reformatted and ran a surface scan, no problems found. Reinstalled XP on same drive, exact same problems. Got another drive I know works (old ATA 66 5400 rpm drive), formatted it and installed XP on it, exact same problems again! Tried a third drive I know works, and got the exact same problems again!
So, is this new power supply bad? Did I fry something? Break something while installing the PS? My guess is that next step would be a new motherboard?
Please help!
Thanks,
Mark
