Installed new memory...now computer won't even boot.

Hi all, any help would be greatly appreciated.

First thing I did was unlock the battery, but then I placed it back in like a neophite, so I didn't remove it like I was supposed to. I removed the old memory and placed the new one inside. I closed the hatch, turned it over.... and it won't even boot now.

I checked the battery several times to make sure it's locked in place, and the memory definitely seems to be locked in as well..

What could I have done?

Have you put the old memory back in?

I assume this is a laptop?

Yes, I did put the old memory back and tried that as well.

Sorry, this is a laptop yes. It's a Toshiba Satellite L875-S7110

Ensure the laptop is turned off.
Unplug the laptop's AC power cable.
Remove the battery (if the model has a removable battery).
Unplug all wires or peripherals. This includes CDs, DVDs, USB sticks, mice, printers, and any other accessories.
Hold down the power button for thirty seconds.
Reattach the battery.
Connect the AC adaptor to the power socket that was confirmed to be working in the first step.
Connect the other end of the AC adaptor to your computer.
Try starting the computer.

If the laptop still won't start, the AC adaptor or battery may have failed.



Ensure the laptop is turned off.
Remove the battery (if the model has a removable battery).
Attempt to start the laptop.
If that doesn't work, reattach the battery.
Unplug the AC power from the laptop.
Attempt to start the laptop.

If the laptop works without one of those two accessories (the AC adaptor or battery), it would seem that the accessory has failed.

So you think I shorted the battery somehow? You don't think it's something more serious like the motherboard? I'm getting ready to take it over to GeekSquad.

Try holding the ESC key and pressing and releasing the power button.

Sometimes the below takes a few tries:

So far no luck. I took it into the Geek Squad, and they seem to believe the motherboard is shot, because they tried plugging in their AC adapter, and none of the power-light indicators was doing anything.

He suggested I leave the battery out overnight and give it a shot tomorrow, so I'm doing that I guess.

Damn shame. It seems I really botched this one.

Well, that's some bad luck.

Maybe you can find a refurb/used and put your hard drive in it?

Well, I tried your suggestion everyday for the last few days and no luck. Thanks for trying to help. Much appreciated.

I went ahead an bought myself a nice budget value notebook -- the Toshiba Satellite C55-C5240. It's a nice little upgrade, so I'm cool with everything.
