installed new hd not showing in "my computer" (xp)

hi, i put a new 20 gig maxtor hd in my computer (set to slave) after boot xp showed new hardware installed and the hd is showing up in device manager but in properties doesnt show device usage (also shows in bios) however it isnt showing in "mycomputer"? if i need to fdisk and format it how do i go about it in xp? thanks for any help in advance
 
I'm not real up on XP (NT4.0 was my bailiwick) but you should be able to set up the new harddrive in disk manager.

Go ahead and slap me if I'm wrong.
 
yeah, i answered this exact same question a couple of days ago ... in xp, you need to make the drive active before it will show up in My Computer and other stuff .. you have to use Disk Management in XP ..

go to it by ..
Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, select Disk Management on the left, and right click your drive, and select Mark Partition as Active .. or it might be Populate Partiton.. something like that .. you should see it when you get there ...
