Installed new GTX680 and lost all analog sounds

I had a 7970 in the pc, everything worked great. I installed a GTX680 in it and lost all analog audio. My meter bar goes up and down and shows I have sound being produced but nothing comes from my speakers. I have tested the speakers to make sure they work and they do. I can make sound come from the video card to my tv through the tv speakers, and I can make sound come from the digital out of my sound card to my receiver, but for the life of me I cant do anything to get my analog outputs to produce sound. Any help would be grateful.

The installation of drivers added an nvidia sound device to your machine, which is why over HDMI sound comes out of your TV. You need to right click on the sound volume icon in the toolbar, go into the devices and set the sound card as the default and primary again.

Done that, several times, and made my sound card the primary, and like mentioned, it shows its got sound, but nothing comes out of my sound card to my analog set up. Im see why I have always stayed with AMD for this is BS here.

hehehe.....

Let me know if you want to switch back :)

Also how about disabling the Nvidia sound option under device manager?

I never install it because I never use it. But its bound to be something like this because you are getting sound over HDMI which tells you definitely that the wrong sound device is selected.

I get sound over HDMI only if I enable in in device mgr. If I select my sound card, then the little meter jumps around saying there is music playing but nothing comes out of my analog inputs. I have triple checked my connection at the jacks, and I have made sure the card is setting in the pci socket, and yet I have no sound, and this again was after I installed this POS card. Im sooooooo mad right now its not funny. Ill take the micro stutter AMD has over my sound card not working correctly because I installed a video card, this is total BS.

Anyone want to trade?

Then send it back. Clearly its a latent fault in the card and its drivers and the guys that well you it will be able to reproduce the issue with the same sound card and refund you without further concern.

I doubt its the GPU in itself as he mentioned it does pass off sound to his TV and AV receiver, just not from his soundcards analogue outputs. I would think other issues, ie, motherboard, sound card drivers conflicting somewhere or with the GPU driver. Never had this issue with any Nvidia card TBH and think its a rare one.

My suggestion would be to uninstall the Nvidia driver and reinstall it choosing custom install where it will list all of the components that are typically installed. Uncheck the HD Audio component as well as other items you wont likely need (I only choose GPU driver and physx). It may still detect HD Audio devices in device manager so disable those after install. If still no sound, try re-installing your sound card drivers.

i mean its really straight forward. Open your Sounds window by right clicking your speaker icon in the toolbar near the clock. In that window you can select your default sound output device. Mine has a large speaker icon and is labeled as speakers. You will see your sound card listed as the none bold text. You should also see the green check mark showing which is currently default and a drop down menu at the bottom to select your default if you need to change it.

If your 100% sure that your default is your sound is your sound card then you should start looking elsewhere. Its highly likely there is nothing wrong with the graphics card at all. I mean, its really not sounding like it.

First off is your speakers power plugged in? Are they blown? Have you tried headphones or another set? Most modern sound drivers will automatically detect when you plug into your jacks. Most Motherboards have several 1/8" jacks in the back. Have you tried setting up the output from your audio manager? Have you tested your speaker configuration? Perhaps Your set up for surround or quadrophonic? I typically set up two of my jacks for front speakers out because i have 2 sets and a lot of times with different apps its a hit or miss having one set up as rear-no output.

With most drivers you can assign a jack to whatever you want to in your audio manager. The green jack can be set up as rear or even microphone.

Anyway, if you stay calm i am sure this can be sorted out. I have even seen bad harddrive sectors cause sound card driver issues. Your case is most likely a setup issue though but i wouldnt rule anything out just yet. Except the graphics card. I really really doubt the graphics card is your issue

I use both AMD and Nvidia systems, with both analog and digital (HDMI) audio connections on all my systems and they work great. You certainly have a localized problem that is not Nvidia's fault.

I'd try reinstalling you analog devices drivers again. If it's a Realtek, visit Realtek's site for the latest drivers of your specific chip.

Don't be too hasty here. If its not a simple configuration option, clean out the drivers and reinstall. Use the AMD driver cleaner utility (works with win7 only).

Is this a discrete sound card? Or onboard? If it's discrete, then the addition of the video card maybe have taken up all of the hardware address space, leaving none for the sound card.

See if the BIOS has a setting for "Clear PnP Data", or "Clear ESCD".
