The Avalon you downloaded is just a developer's preview. It is a group of technologies for building the next generation of user interfaces. It doesn't do anything to your desktop.

It absolutly will not do ANYTHING to your desktop. WHat it will allow is programmers to incorporate cool effects into their apps using vector based graphics (it will use your high end graphics card 🙂 ) rather than bitmap graphics.
