installation problem with Canon scanner

I had a CanoScan N650U scanner. It worked fine under Win98 on one of my PC. Now I want to install it on other PCs under Win2000. But none of them can install it. The USB interface cable also supply powers the scanner. I can feel the scanner is warm after it is connected to PC for a long time. Does anyone have any suggestion?🙁

Do you have the latest <a class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.usa.canon.com/html/conCprDriversTypeSystemV2.jsp?x=2section=0&t=10001&m=10033&group_id=-1&type=Software&prodref=PS&subtype=Software&level2catq=AllCats&modelid=6858&item=6790#windr" target=blank>driver?</A>

Is the usb cable running through an unpowered hub?

I have downloaded the latest version from website before. I connected scanner and PC directly with that power cable. So there should be no relation with hub.

I have this scaner running through a 4 port powered USB 1.1 hub on Windows XP Pro. No problems! Under control panel, device manager does the scanner have a yellow exclamation mark? If so download the latest driver from canon and install per instruction that come with the driver.
