Install XP or XP 64-bit edition? I have both.

I just built a new Core 2 Duo PC. I have Windows XP SP2 32-bit, as well as the 64-bit edition available on CD. I'm wondering which version I should install.

I've heard some issues with the 64-bit edition with certain drivers, as well as programs / games.

This PC is meant to be a gaming PC. Which version do you recommend? I don't want to deal with any issues!

I remember when I bought x64 thinking that it would be good with my dc opteron. I remember when I couldn't find any support even from microsoft. I went back to the 32 bit xp pro and never looked back. Now I'm running vista ultimate rc1 and according to ms I should be able to upgrade from x64 to the retail version of vista at a reduced cost. Stay away from x64, treat it like the plague.

I agree. With the x64 edition, you're just asking for aches and pains.

Are you saying avoid XP 64 or both XP and Vista 64? I have been trying to install XP 64 Pro on a new system for days now with no success. It always hangsup during the install saying xxx.xxx file not found on the cd. About ready to switch to vista. Which version would you suggest for gaming.

I 'm using Vista x64 HP (I made the right choice for sure and it had 98% of my drivers even before I had to search for the remaining 3,I have them all now, my games and 32 bit software work fine,you could go with Vista Ultimate since that has both 32 bit and 64 bit DVDs.

I had no problem loading XP64 on my rig, then i got the upgrade for Vista 64bit Business also, worked well with a clean install, no drivers needed in the install process

SP2 for xp64 will be out in the next few months if you want to hold off and do a slipstream. I would be all over XP64 if my TV tuner had drivers and my only motherboard drivers were not:

It only took Leadtek 26 days from Vista's release date for me to get Vista x64 WHQL DTV tuner drivers,nice to have all my Vista x64 drivers so fast .

My tv card has vista x64 drivers as well, just no XP64bit (vista x64 drivers released on February 7).

Go with the 32bit version man. You dont want 64.

Im about to upgrade to windows xp(I use win2k still ) myself when I build my core2duo rigg. Id never even consider the 64bit version(i dont own it anyways so that makes it easy). And I definitely dont plan on installing any vista crap anytime soon.

64 bit will be cool if everything works fine without any isuues. 32bit is the best one when it comes to drivers and compatibility
