install windows on SSD before getting HDD?

I'm building my parents a PC, and have everything except for a 1-2TB HDD. Just waiting on a good deal to come around. I already have the SSD that I want to install windows 10 on, but am wondering if I should wait until I get the HDD to install windows? Will it be easier to configure windows settings if I do it all together, or is it not a big deal to get everything going, and add the big HDD when it comes? I have been on a mac for a few years now, and havent done a build in about 7 years so I have some tech experience but am definitely rusty.

I suppose that your intent is to leave the ssd inside the system forever and add a hdd after. Right?

No problem at all. Put everything in order and install the OS!
Have no remorse! Install Windows 10 on the SSD and don't look back! Your newly ssd Windows 10 instance will not care about the an additional storage device dropped inside the system after the install process.

It is a mater of a few seconds:
You drop the second mechanical hdd inside the case, connect power and data(sata) to the hdd, boot the system, Windows 10 detects a new storage device attached to the system and auto installs it. Create partitions, format them, that is it. You're good to go with an additional 1/2TB of storage capacity.

yeah the SSD is going to be the HDD for windows and the programs used, it's a 240GB drive so it should be sufficient for them. Then stuff like media files will be stored on the HDD.

You can change drive letters in disk manager. Just shuffle them around so the HDD gets to be D.

Installing Windows to the OS drive, with nothing else hooked up (except the drive with the OS installer) has been my standard practice ever since I found Windows putting the reserved partition on the drive I didn't select once, and then finding via Google that it was not uncommon. So, IMO, do it that way even if you have both at the same time.
