Hi,
is it possible to install WIndows CE on a desktop PC? That is, a PC with a hard drive and a display monitor?

Is Windows CE free? IF it is commercial software, where can one purchase it?

Thankyou

No, Windows CE is custom-compiled for every piece of hardware it runs on. There is no "generic" CE, there is a different version for every PDA model, set-top box, etc.

Microsoft has generic versions for hardware developers to customize to run on their machines but that requires buying the development tools and then using them to build CE.

Ok then, I guess you canbnot do something like this with Windows CE. But what about WIndows XP Embedded? Is it possible to do it with that?

Or is there any such OS that has the capability to instant start up and shut down and can run off a desktop machine?

Or, can someone just give me a little guide or tutorial on embedded systems? Or what is the simplest one I can make for fun?
