install problems....HELP!!!

I have an AMD 700 with a SOYO K7VIA mobo. I am having trouble installing WindowsXP. Everytime I boot from CDROM to install XP or Win2k, the system reboots. I have no idea what is wrong with it. Can it be the power supply? Or is the motherboard just F@#ed up?
One time it gave me an error message saying:

error code 4
file\i386\ntkrnlmp.exe

Please help

You said your booting from "disk".
Do you mean you created the 1.44 floppy disks or did you try booting from the CD?
