my PC uses the nForce Ultra 400 with MCP chipset and the C-Media CMI9739A audio codec for the 5.1 channel sound.

question, should i install the nForce chipset driver for the sound or should i use the C-Media driver? It seems that I can't install both at the same time. One overwrites the other.

P.S.
My friend says that my board doesn't have Soundstorm. Because when I installed, the nForce drivers there wasn't an nVidia icon on my control panel. There is an Nvmixer entry in my programs list though. Is Soundstorm important? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

the problem is once i install nforce it can't seem to play sound through anything other than the front speakers. Even though my mobo is nForce with 6 channels. I really need some info on this. Any help is appreciated in this matter.

I have found with MCP boards, or even MCP-T boards connected by analog, that using the drivers for the CODEC have less bugs than the nV drivers. I always had audio trouble with games, especially BF1942 and nV drivers, switching to the realteks cleared it up. I'd go with the C-Medias given your setup, evaluate them, then decide on which to keep. If trying to get 5.1 with the nV drivers you need to use the nVmixer and the speaker wizard will help you set it up. If the mixer didn't install as it should you can remap the ports in the advanced audio properties through the CP, HTH :)

thanks punisher.
it turns out that nvmixer did install correctly. it just seems that chaintech (i have the 7njl4 model) motherboards use c-media driver for the onboard sound. so i will have to use the c-media driver anyways.
