Install New CPU, Have to Reformat?

If I have a system set up and I decide to swap out the CPU for a newer one, do I have to reformat the hard drive and/or reinstall windows?

Ugh, this one was always a tough one. If your using an OEM OS (like one that came from Dell, Compaq, etc.) then you'll need a new to purchase a new OS disk.

As far as reformatting goes, i didn't think so. Ive installed alot of new major parts and windows didnt freak out. I think you should be fine in this area. Windows should just pick up the change and be OK. I have a system very similar to yours, so if I get my stuff before you, I'll let you know if it works.

Programs too? just need to clarify and make sure, cause it looks like I might be getting a cheapie proccessor until I can obtain an e6600

You won't need to reinstall anything. Gong from a single core to a dual core you will need to make sure device manager updates to reflect two cores, but other than that you will have no problem swappig out socket 775 cpus.
