Install dual channel RAM in same color slot?

Just changed my motherboard because my Asus died. Using the Foxconn NF4UK8AA and it shows the full 2Gig of RAM but I think it's in single mode. The POST screens scoot by pretty quick. There are 2 blue slots and two yellow slots. I have one stick in the first (right hand) blue slot and one stick in the first yellow slot. Tried them both in blue and can't POST. The Foxconn documentation is pretty poor. There is a verbal description of the RAM configuration in the manual but it doesn't make any sense. I've checked related topics here but I'm not sure what step to take next.

CPU-Z will tell you whether it's dual channel or not. Just be sure to have the first stick in the slot closest to the CPU.

According to your mobo manual to run dual channel memory you want the dimms in slots 0+1 or 2+3, which I would assume is the 2 yellow or 2 blue slots. The slots should be labeled on the mobo, the manual PDF doesn't specify.

On a couple of boards I've setup I had to boot with just one dimm, shutdown, add second dimm and reboot. I don't know why this is, only that it worked.

Try this: Boot with just 1 dimm in slot 0, shutdown, install second dimm in slot 1 and reboot. This may get you up and running.

At least on my Foxconn board, you put both RAM sticks in the same colored slots to get dual channel operation. So either put both in the blues (which is what I use), or both in the yellows.

Thanks for the suggestions. Can't see the numbers on the dimm slots with all the stuff installed on the board but I think it makes sense to to reboot between moving the sticks around. I think I'll try the yellow slots this time. Also I need to remind myself to turn off the power supply and leave the machine unplugged for a few minutes before doing anything in there.

Yup! Took out one stick, powered down and then rebooted. Powered down and moved the stick to yellow, so both dimms are in the yellow sockets. Rebooted with no trouble and now I'm in dual channel. Thanks all.
