How important is it to disconnect the battery when installing a new headunit?

It's a serious pain to disconnect the power in my car and I'd rather not.
 
Best way to do it is to disconnect battery terminal, but if you dont want to do that at least pull some fuses.
 
I have never disconnect the power ever. Just be attentive as to where your main power wire is at all times and make sure it never touches any metal surface and is the very first wire you connect. Also it helps that I use Power Poles on all my instalations for quick installs and no need for electrical tape or shrink tubes.

Many many uses for these suckers. Cheap makes for quick connect and disconnect. I use these also for my RC hobby on my batteries and chargers. Better then deans connectors IMO.
