If you really insist on paying someone to make yourself look like a dumbass, I'll do it for a hell of a lot cheaper.

how does a body kit make him look like a dumbass. can we please not turn this into one of those 'anti-ricer' threads.

Easy. It makes an otherwise decent vehicle into a plastic locomotive that is inept at navigating speedbumps and curbs. To me, that says dumbass. Also, every car in this town that looks like that tends to be a magnet for police. Why? Because what motivates them to make the car look like that is the very same that motivates them to want to show off and be paid attention. Most of them do this by being reckless and inconsiderate drivers, with a tendency to cause accidents and endanger other people's lives and property needlessly. This has been my experience on the road, and to me that says "dumbass." Take it for what you will.

How will he look like a dumbass? The kit that Rallispec linked to looks fine to me, although I prefer something a little less aggressive.

Someone might say that you look like a dumbass with that tree hanging from your rearview mirror, but as long as you like it who cares right?

usually when you buy a kit, and if its a replica, it isnt going to fit your car perfect. youll need to take it to a body shop where they can add on fiber glass, and or grind it down to fit your car. they will then drill the holes for the screws and match it up. i guess you could get it painted while youre at it. i like to run my kit different colors just cuz im anxious.

hope that helps.

yeah its your friggin car...do what you want to it. I need clearance cuz of snow and speed bumps in my complex so I'd go with something less aggressive...but if someone wants a lowered kit thats their choice.

He thinks that it will make his car look better so more power to him. So he can't go over a speedbump or curb, that's his problem not yours. You aren't going to be the one paying for it or repairing it for him so why call him a dumbass? I agree with you that kits on some cars make them cop magnets, but that depends on the application. I happen to like the look of a clean body kit such as this one. Now if only I could afford the $3,500 + shipping/tax/customs and 3 month wait from Japan. ;)

:D

The tree serves a purpose, and was inexpensive. Body kits serve no practical purpose, and are expensive. All the time people bitch about "well I can't afford a better car so I'm gonna 'make do' with this one and rice it to hell!" Well, if you didn't spend you money on useless crap like bodykits, you would be able to afford a better car.

Whats your definition of better? Believe it or not, some people LIKE customizing the look of their car. Sure they could spend the same amount and buy a BMW or something...but not everyone wants one. Because you think its "better" since it costs more doesn't mean others agree with you.

I think you are misunderstanding me. I don't care if he gets a body kit. More power to him, sure. Better for the economy, and something for me to laugh at, that's fine. I'm not denying it's his choice and if he thinks it looks good, he should get it. The point I am trying to make, is that it is impractical. For instance, what if I thought it would look 'cool' to put a body kit on my lawnmower? I may be mowing in style, but I'm going to look like a real dumbass when I can't cut my grass anymore, because I've defeated the practical purpose of the machine. Why spend more money on your car just to gain the inability to navigate common parking lot obstacles?

I agree with this point...but I don't think he's asking "should I get a body kit"...I think he's asking "how much does it cost".

I for one do not care for BMW's. I drive an inexpensive car that I enjoy to no end. However, I cannot picture myself modifying it in such a manner as to prevent practical use. For example:

Body kits that make speed bumps and parking lots with curbs a challenge.
Superbright headlights that blind oncoming traffic.
Exhaust systems that create loud, obnoxious sound to wake my neighbors when I leave for work in the AM.

When people do this to their cars, it falls into dumbass territory because it turns the car into a spectacle instead of transportation. If it was all purely for aesthetic reasons, why would police constantly be after cars like this?

Yes..back to the topic...
I'm curious about the cost for getting an OEM body kit installed on my prelude. It will just replace the ugly matte-black side skirts and bumper. I can get it pre-painted in the exact color of my car so how much would someone charge me to install it?

and to all of you ranting...i bought the prelude before hand because i knew i was going to modify it, i was considering getting a 3series BMW, a 93, but its harder to customize it...to find parts and what not. the prelude has a lot of parts available for it, and it is quite a fast car in itself. Also, the end cost of a BMW would have given me a heart attack with all its costs for maintenance. Hondas, and u cant deny this, are incredibly reliable cars. I'm the type of person who hated to part with a car, and so when i made this purchase i knew this car would last me a long time. I'm young so its acceptable for me to have a "riced" up a car [wat a racist term]. All of you who bltch are probably older and would look quite foolish rolling down the street in a car that gets more horsepower than ur genitals.

so what you are saying is that your sexual prowess is quicker than your car's 0-60? The ladies must love you.

I could regulate on this thread hardcore.

I'll just say that you're a fool for destroying the natural good looks that the 4th gen Preludes offer stock. Make sure you order the kit in primer so you can fit in with all the other wanker riceboys.

1) BMW's aren't easily modifiable because they got it right the first time.
2) Honda also got it right the first time, on a cheaper scale, but unfortunately they're cheap enough that morons like you can afford to 2nd guess the styling.
3) Preludes are not fast cars. They handle well, but they're severely underpowered.
4) They're quite reliable... Unless you eff them up.
5) It is never acceptable to own rice.
6) The old are the ones that pay your paycheck, and leave you in the dust on the road since they can afford cars that are truly fast. Unlike you, who feels the need to take a perfectly decent Prelude and give it a makeover with heavy plastic that does nothing but slow you down.
