We use tens of thousands of them at work and have Great Success with them. You either talked to idiot that broke their own computers or just haven't talked to many people.

I'd rather have the The HP competitor zd8000.

-Same size screen
-has a number pad
-built in memory card slots
-bit more subtle design

Can you use that setup on a flight to watch a movie?

My 1st genny XPS loaded to the hilt is still going strong after nearly 1 year of hard use. It's heavy for sure, but it hasn't let me down and that's all that counts when I need it the most. 🙂

It still kicks every notebook I've used so far , even the newest models so it's hardly obsolete.

I agree. I am up for a new laptop at work and was soooo tempted to have them get me this one (they pretty much will get me any laptop Dell sells). As much as I wanted to do it, I regretted getting a really large work laptop before, so I went with the 700m instead. I do enough traveling that it makes it very annoying to have a honker of a laptop...and I do all my gaming on my home machine anyway. It is a damn nice laptop though.

You can use an XPS to do that.. for about 15 minutes.

That's one sick battery!

Between the stock (batt with s/w) and the extended life batt, I have over 5 hours of reserve. The extended will do 3+ of surfing. Not bad for 2GB/3.4GHz/MR9800/256 system. It only gets really warm if you're gaming and that will cut runtimes down by 40% easily.

How would you guys rate this new model on a scale of 1-10?

honestly , i would rate this an 8.

Ratings would have been higher, if it was around the 1.5k mark 🙂

There are coupons and deals that will bring the price down.

My XPS bill came up to over $4400. I wound up paying $2734 shipped. The guys on notebookforums.com frequently post coupon codes.

With my previous experience, I'd say 8.5-9.0+ easy. The 6800UG is an awesome GPU to have in a notebook. It appears that the power savings from going from a NW to CN has been "pushed" over to the GPU. That works out well especially to those that choose to work more than play. (me)

I'll probably order it and give mine to my wife. I am still on the fence with this though.

jackass

Hundreds of Dell laptops here, both Inspiron and Latitude, with very few problems.

While I am not a gamer by any stretch of the imagination, these type of DTRs have been on the market for quite a while already. Here is one example of such.

The DTR I happen to own and use as my primary machine happens to be a Clevo/Sager, though I use it for business purposes.

Assuming the above comment's intention was a SFF machine, not certain many could consider such readily portable - especially those of us in urban areas who utilize public transportation daily.

Hmm wow, 2734 shipped? Man oh man, the XPS is nice but I got my 1.6ghz Centrino all beefed up with the new 128mb Radeon 9600 Turbo for 1300...

Yeah I got a Clevo/Sager for a good price too. 1920x1200, 15.4" WS, 1.8 Dothan, 1 GB ram, 60 GB, 9800... 1700. It's thinner and doesn't look so gaudy (IMO). Sorry but $1000+ when using $750 worth of coupon codes isn't worth the 6800UG and 200 MHz in speed to me.
