inspiron 8600 screen problems

I have a dell inspiron 8600, and ramdomly it goes into a black screen when windows xp loads. If I press fn+f8 (conmut LCD/CRT) the problem fix and the image appears in the screen. What is the problem? Is it normal? Should I call dell' s technical service? Any idea?
