Inspiron 2100 -- what's better?

I'm really looking to get a Dell Inspiron 2100. After looking at a number of laptops, I really think there's no better laptop out there. Unfortunately, I've been unable to track one down. I found one at half.com, but that has a bad pixel. A few have gone up on eBay, but the most recent auction was taken down. So...I think it's time to start looking at other options. Does anyone have a suggestion for a laptop that is comparable to the Inspiron 2100? None of Dell's new offerings seem to be anywhere close. How about the Sony Vaio? Any thoughts on those? Or some of Toshiba's offerings?

Dell's C400 replaced the L400 I believe. The L400 replaced the Inspiron 2100 I think. And the Inspiron 2100 replaced the Latitude LS. Their tendency to jump around in naming conventions is a little annoying.

Check out the C400, its a pretty cool machine I think but still not perfect.

Got to love Dell's consistency. Sigh.

Thanks for the info. I ended up snagging a refurbished Inspiron from dell. 256mb/30g for under $1500. I really didn't like their new offerings. The Sony Vaio R505 was a close bet, but it didn't come with intergrated ethernet (only on the docking station.) But other than that it had the same specs and design as the Inspiron.

Thanks again for the feedback!

A friend of mine has an extra DVD/CDRW so that saved me some cash.

Faster processor, but starting price of $1899. And I read somewhere that the design isn't nearly as good. Even from the pictures it looks flimsy.
