Inspiron 1405 - Dell mismatching memory and processors?

I just recently ordered an inspiron 1405 and was going over the sales order when something struck me:

Inspiron E1405, Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5600 (2MB/1.83GHz/667MHz)

1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM 533MHZ,2 DIMM for Inspiron 640M/E1405

I went back to the order page and looked at the memory choices and only the 533 mhz ram was available. I then went and looked at some other inspiron models and other than in a few circumstances only 533 mhz ram is selectable even when the processor is running at 667.

My questions are:
1) How much of a performance impact will this have on the computer (if any)?
2) If it is a large impact is it worth the money to upgrade? (Around $120)
3) Why would Dell not even offer a user to match memory with their processor (667mhz ram was, and is not even selectable on many inspiron models that have 667mhz processors)?

Thanks in advance.

1) You probably wont notice the difference at all.

You could call them and ask about the issue. The 640M should have the option for 667mhz RAM, unless 640M changes options/specs from country to country. Probably a low stock issue.

welcome to dell's world.. they been doing this for a looong loong time...

servers - 533 fsb fitted with pc1600 ddr

precision desktop 533 fsb fitted with pc2100 ddr

thats how they save money... if you phone in an order, you can select whatever you want, if you buy online, you can't..
