Any console, including Japanese, European, Asian, etc... but only control pads, no joysticks. Third party control pads are fine also, but I think most of them are crap anyway. My pick would be the Japanese Saturn Controllers. Button layouts are great, shoulder buttons, and excellent 4-way pad. SNES controllers would come in second.
 
I'll go with the original NES controller. Simple as you can get. I love my GameCube, but sometimes the button layout can be a pain in the nuts, especially with Metroid Prime and trying to use the missile combos in the heat of battle.
 
i agree w/ bill, my hands are pretty big, so the org. xbox controller is nice for ME, the controller-s comes in handy for the lil' ones.
 
Original XBox. N64 second. I hate the frickin' PS2 controller. Button placement to me is awkward - always has been since the original PS1 controller
 
Japanese Sega Saturn pads followed closely by the SNES pad. I would say the Xbox controller is the best default controller for racing games though.

I concur. I don't have big hands, but I have long fingers and nails so the large controller is helpful.
 
I love the PS1/PS2 controllers but the more I use the X-Box controller... The more I'm starting to like it. It just seems to be more versatile in terms of FPS games.
 
N64 has the best layout hands down.

GameCube has the best all-around controller with the Wavebird wireless.

XBox-S isn't bad. Original X-Box is way too big.

PS controllers suck IMHO. I don't like how the buttons are named with symbols instead of letters. I could never get used to it.
