I feel for you, I just had a bout last night. Could not fall asleep until 1230-1 AM and I had to get up at 5:20. :( Anymore when it happens I just go read for a while until I feel ready to fall asleep.

as the midnight hour roled by the computations wher yet to be made in my final stand agenst the tyranical imperialism that i've so strongly alied myself in the past. and soon i realized, that it is all predestend, that if i wher to lose or win it wouldn't be by something i could change.

as the battle was to be faught at 7:45 in the morning, and it was but 3am when i had finished convercing with mycomrads, sleep found me well, but waking found me porely. Tho my performance on that last grate battle of the FW was unmatched, the computations of prior that wher given up as predestend now make it impocible to know of general Grant will be around in about 3 months.

i had an egg and bacon sandwich for brakefast.

Try watching tv or some warm milk (like hot cocoa if you don't like plain).

You could also try getting comfy in your bed and reading a bit until you feel sleepy.

The important thing is to get relaxed and forget about your problem of falling asleep. Once a person realizes they're having trouble sleeping, they tend to tense up, which makes relaxing enough to fall asleep more difficult.

Have you guys tried Melatonin? Get it in a capsule form and in 3mg. It seems to work for me sometimes.

the herb melatonin is grate to help you get to sleep, it's the natural chimical your brain produces to put you to sleep so it's a LOT less adictive than other man-made chimical sleeping pills.

I feel your pain. I've had recurring bouts of insomnia for as long as I can remember. Of course just staying up an hour or two later than you usually do isn't too bad. That's probably just a bit of restlesness and easy to recover from. But when you usually go to bed at X:00 and it's X:00+4hours and you're still wide awake, then that's when it really gets fun, especially if you have to be someplace early the next morning. If you've been doing the same thing for several weeks in a row, your sleeping routine may have just been thrown temporarily out of whack. Hell, once I graduated it took me over a year to adjust from my ingrained college hours to 'real world' time and I still go to bed at about 1:00 on most nights.

All the above advice is pretty good(except for messing around with something like Vicatin.) The main thing is just to try and relax, which is obviously extremely difficult when you know you should be sleeping. If it's getting close to my usual bed time and I can tell I'm still wide awake I try to start gradually winding down. I stay away from the computer an hour before bed because that's just too stimulating and requires feedback and thought on my part. I might read, but usually I just try to find some old reruns on TV. Another thing I like to do when having problems is take out my contacts so I can't see the time on any of my clocks. Nothing builds anxiety like watching those hours tick by. Just turning the alarm clock around so you can't see it is an alternative if you happen to have good vision.
