Hi all. Please share your wealth of knowleage and let me know which video card would currently get your reward as the best buy? Measured shearly on current software preformance per price.

Yeah, that's what I would say too. But if it's AGP, then I think you can get a 6800gt for a similar price as a x800xl, which would be a better choice overall. If not then x800xl it is.

I always hate when this question is asked. I just gave away an S3 Virge card yesterday for free, so that card has an infinate performance/$$$ ratio. You've got to look at this question in a different context - either what is the best video card for my budget, or what is the minimum card that will give me the performance levels I want.

Toms Hardware did a chart once on that question, and you can see how there are some pretty weak cards at the tops of the list. Get my point?

My personal opinion, there's little point to buying any brand new graphic card less than a 6600GT. But if you game a lot, and have money to burn, by all means look for an x800xl or 6800GT or whatever.

~$300 X800XL for PCIe, either a ~$160 6600GT or ~$330 6800GT for AGP.

Just keep in mind you may need a better PSU with a 6800GT or X800XL.

Yeah, i just upgraded a customer's pc today, from an ATI 9600XT to a Nvidia 6600GT, and i had to replace his generic 350Watt power supply with a good 450Watt (he only had 12A on the 12Volt line...yuck)

So sometimes the cost of upgrading to these newer cards is more than just the card itself.

6600 GT seems to be the Frames per buck champ. Not to mention you can get insane overclocks like 30%!

There was another review that demonstrated this better, I just can't seem to find it.
