Insinkerator evolution compact issue! Pls help!

Hi! My garbage disposal stopped working. Hit reset. Used wrench on bottom(which didnt turn) there was a plastic tiny measuring spoon in there that i got out. Looks like the bottom plate bent down and is crooked. Is this fixable?

My Insinkerator had a similar problem. I could not get it to work again, I picked up and installed one of these:

At the time they were made in the US which is important to me, the installation wasn't that difficult. They sound less "grindy" when they run this is a good thing to me but keep in mind its not quiet.

I doubt a plastic spoon bent anything in there.
They are made to be abused.
In fact, their recommended method to keep them clean and the pivot blades free are to put a ham hock or ribeye bone in there and let it break everything loose.

My pivot blades froze up a few years back and they weren't rotating out to grind the food.
After looking online at their help section, I did the bone method.
It was loud as hell, but it worked.

You are going to have to feel around the edge and try to wiggle the hex key in the bottom back and fourth to get it unstuck.
There is probably a piece of plastic still in there.

We bought a snowbird residence last year. On our first stay at the place we discovered that the garbage disposal was very rusty and had seized up. My wife insisted that it needed to be replaced even after I pointed out that we never really used the one in our primary residence. There was no dissuading her though and I replaced it but it will be the last time. We never put anything down them that couldn't go down a regular sink drain.

I remember my mother putting chicken bones down the one we had when I was growing up. Why they couldn't be put in the garbage remains a mystery to me. Garbage disposals are to me one of the most useless of kitchen appliances.

Garbage disposals aren't a bad idea, they just suffer from people using them incorrectly who then complain they freeze up. people tend to batch waste rather than letting it run while scraping plates and pans. Part of the reason is that $75 builder specials are the norm and tend to be loud. Another problem is folks not being careful with utensils and seem to think the occasional spoon/fork/knife is no biggie. The reason for disposals in the first place is landfills. Now imagine communities giving a mile square landfill as much attention and maintenance as your average garbage disposal. Get the picture?

The unit is jammed. Use an Allen wrench in the bottom of the unit to break it lose. If you can't break it lose, replace the unit. Before using the new disposer, read the operation instructions out loud to everyone in the household.

Two tips on installing a new one. Make sure you have the correct power cord, plug or wire.
Also you have to be rough getting it on the pipe so don't treat it like a baby.

Another pro-tip is to stack some wood or something under it to support it while you attach it to the sink.
It can be a pain to hold level while trying to secure the ring.
