I was looking to complete my audio setup.
Dumping the Bose system I got 4 years ago not happy with them, cant hear the center chanel over the the other speakers.
Got this center Chanel speaker 2 years ago

Along with these 2 for fronts

Now I need a new Sub and two more book shelf's for the rear.
I have a very large room that these speakers will be going into.

I saw were best buy had the Insignia speakers for like $89 a pair. they had great customers reviews but couldn't find any info on them on the AVS form.

So I was turning here to see if anyone had any experience with them. For that price they would help a lot on my budget if they were any good for a large room.

I also will be having this reciver coming in tomorrow sometime.

How much did you pay for the Yammy? You can find it online for about $350, msrp would be budget suicide.

The Insignias are good, I've heard them, they aren't hi-fi by any means, but they will have no trouble besting your bose setup. For surrounds I think a dipole arrangement would have better dispersion, you might consider something like this:

I haven't heard the Insignias (you're talking about the B2111's, right?), but I've seen many positive comments and reviews on them. A lot of the positive feedback on them was when they were under $50/pair though. It seems like they're not as good a deal now, but should be good for budget speakers (especially just on surround duty).

I have a lot of suggestions for subwoofers in the sticky thread. How large is this room of yours? That's going to play a big role in how much sub you're going to need.

That's a fairly big space. Does it have openings to other areas as well? High ceilings?

What's your subwoofer budget? (or overall budget?)

The Problem with the room is that it has 2 doors on one for one side a bedroom and one to the utility room. A fireplace on on wall with a small window, a Bay window with a door going to the enclosed patio, on the last wall there is about a 6 ft opening into the dinning room. So even though it is lagre it is hard to place the audio and video equipment in a place that is good relay.

We may end up putting it in front of the fire place being that we don't use it anymore.

Budget is probably $600 -1200 I now that is a big spread in price but easier for me to talk my wife into it the lower it is. was hoping to make use of the Klipsich center and fronts I have.

As long as you're happy with the Klipsch speakers you can certainly keep using them of course.

Is $600-$1200 the subwoofer budget, or the budget for the receiver (that you already bought?) + surround speakers + the subwoofer?

no I need to get a surround set and base if i keep what i have. I haven't really been able to see how good the fronts are do to the way the bose base is set up so I cant say how good they are. The center channel works goo but if I cange my fronts I am afraid i will need a new center too.

Just so when we're on same page... when I say surround speakers I'm talking about the two speakers that would be called "surrounds" in a 5.1 or 7.1 configuration.

There's the center speaker and front speakers that you already have

Two speakers would be the surrounds (to the left and right of the seating area or slightly behind that point)

In a 6.1 or 7.1 configuration you'd also have rear / back speaker/speakers that would be behind the seating area.

I'm just mentioning this because I'm getting the impression from you that when I'm saying surround speakers, you're thinking I mean 5 speakers. I just mean a pair of speakers.

A full 5.1 set on a $600-$1200 budget wouldn't leave you all that many options but if that's just for a subwoofer and a pair of speakers, then you'll have a lot of options.

Yea I hope it is just for the 2 surrounds and sub like I said the fronts i have really been able to enjoy good because of the way the Bose sub is set up. the Fronts are not Klipsch reference series they are a set below so maybe if I can find some place around here that sales the reference series I could use the other two for a surrounds. I Didn't see and good reviews about there subs some said they were good for music but slow on movies.

Klipsch has a pretty distinct sound. Have you tried other options to make sure that's really what you're looking for in new speakers?

If you did want to replace the fronts, then you'd probably want to replace the center as well as you said. You could use the Klipsch as the surrounds and rear center in a 6.1 configuration if you got 3 new front speakers and a sub.

There are a ton of great speakers alternatives in the Klipsch reference series pricerange.

I would recommend going with something other than Klipsch for the subwoofer unless you're getting a very good deal on one. There are some really good bang for the buck offerings from Internet Direct companies.

Define cheap....

At $315 shipped the A2-300 from eD is a very good bargain.

linky

Don't let the power rating completely scare you off. The jump from 200w to 400w isn't that much in overall volume. This sub is one of the best values you'll find around the $300 mark.

What?

$600-$1200 = 1 subwoofer + 1 pair of surround speakers?

Wouldnt the Paradigm Mini monitors and the HSU VTF1 be perfect for that budget?

With a room that's roughly 5000 cubic feet, I hope he'd get something with a little more oomph.

The AVS x series may be something that will fit my budget they are a lot cheaper than the Rocket line. They may be a lot cheaper for a reason though.

The rocket lineup will eat through your budget really fast.

The encore X-Series would fit much better. There are a lot of options out there though. Are you still just looking for one pair of speakers as surrounds, or are you planning on replacing the front three speakers? If it's just surround speakers, then don't spend much on them.

A solid subwoofer + a pair of inexpensive speakers like the insignias) would be good. You can leave yourself the option of upgrading the front three speakers at a later date.

The last option you stated looks like it may be the way I need to go. I need a new sub that is for sure. I am just getting to the point were I cant make a mistake in buying something that wont be what I want. Already upset that I spent what I did on the 2 fronts and center last year. If I hadn't had to have a new AC system and duct work installed I wouldn't feel bad buying a new 5.1 setup.

What's happening to the bose system by the way?

Would it be possible to salvage some surround / rear speakers from that system, or do you have other plans for it? (selling / another room / whatever)

Do you have any requirements about what the sub can or cannot be?
There are some really great subs to fit into your budget but most of the good bang for the buck options tend to be rather ugly and large.
