Insignia HDTV looks like garbage

I bought a high-def TV for my room and all the games I play on it look really low-res for some reason. I have it hooked up to an xbox on component connection. S-Video looked even worse for some reason. Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks.

Besides that. I mean, it's a high-definition tv that doesn't even look as good as a normal tv. It should at least look like a normal tv!

Ok, first off, what size is it, and how does it handle input (does it upscan everything to 1080i, or downscan to 540p, or what)?

Next, you did set the HD resolutions in the Xbox menu right?

If its a very large tv, its not uncommon for regular TV and other crappy sources to look worse than they do on a normal tv.

It's a 23 inch flat panel. I turned on 480p and everything in the menu. What else can I try? You mentioned setting HD resolutions in the xbox menu.

ew insignia...I think they used to be Apex or some other off brand japanese company....had to change their name 6 months into this ficscal year as foreign companies can only import X amount of product into North America

Well even 480P should look good on a high-def screen using an Xbox. It must be some other issue.

Go into the video settings of the xbox when it boots up with no disc in it.Set the settings to 480p,720p{if your lcd supports it}and 1080i.You are not getting the hd signals from the xbox if these are not set.Hope this helps.......

I have some inexpensive 27" Apex Tv's for my bedrooms and the picture on them happens to be outstanding. not as nice as my HD SAMSUNG 32", but excellent for the price.

Those video modes are all enabled and I tried the new KOTOR game on it. No dice, it's still low resolution. Do I have to plug the Microsoft HD cables into the component jacks or into AV1 or AV2?

So this is a LCD right.. is it this model?

When you said high-def TV I though you're talking about something else,, but a LCD tv is a different story.

I don't think it's going to get any better for you for your x-box gaming with this LCD,, because from experience most lcd tv have crappy pictures for noraml video viewing,, it's not as sharp and crist as the normal Flat TV sets. You can tell the difference right away. If it give crappy pictures for your normal TV viewing,, it' going to give you crappy pictures for your console gaming.

Is there a VGA adpater for the x-box? if so try it out. It should improve your overall picture when gaming.
If you want your xbox gaming to look good again,, this is what you'll need, your other option will be a new TV.

I go to best buy and most of the HDTV TVs and flat panels look very grainy to me. Even with a HD signal they look grainy.

If I use the vga adaptor that's fine, but then I find myself with a 1000 dollar paperweight. I only bought a flat panel because my room is small. Even if I could return it, and I'm sure the 30 days are gone, my table won't support a 400 pound monstrosity.
