Smilies aside, I wouldn't consider that to be true. I think Eskimo does a great job posting and he clearly knows what he's talking about. He seems to know the industry fairly well, and he has a good handle on technology. I can't imagine any way that associating him with Intel would be a disservice to Intel.

I'm not a litho technician, but the undergraduate program I was a part of was specifically focused on the semiconductor industry and as such from our second week of freshman year (first week was protocol and safety lecture) we were in the fab at school processing wafers. You might check it out if you are interested here.

Relevant to this thread from that main page you can check out several of RIT's process flows if you would like to see how CMOS transistors are formed from silicon up.

You can view the Course Catalog as well.

We have more people here from Intel then I knew about How come no one from AMD is ever here ( or makes posts? I am thinking that Eskimo works or is associated with AMD, but not sure ;D ) A nod to Intel for hiring not only the smartest people on the planet, but making sure those employees are "good people"!

Besides Transistors do other types of components go into making up a IC such as a CPU?

It's funny that you mentioned that. Eskimo and I were just chatting about that the other day. He thought maybe his posts were too technical, and I felt that mine were too basic.

After looking over this thread, it seems that we balanced each other out quite well.


Sometimes it's hard to judge how to explain something. You don't want to get so technical that it goes over most people's heads, and then the information is pretty useless. Yet, you also don't want to be too basic as to not answer the original question completely.

And yes of course, we need to be sure not to get into proprietary information. But that's not as difficult as trying to balance the depth of detail.

So, if anyone would like to see more or less detail... Just say the word.

Pretty good detail level considering the topic. Now if we were talking about how to get the most out of our MSN rebate, that would be a different story.
