Sadly that is true, but Iran definitely has some beautiful and interesting architecture.

Thanks for the link rrahman1!

Yeah, Iran is fairly modern. Tehran is pretty much the same as any large city you find anywhere in the world. sure, things like architecture and technology differs, but city life is surprisingly similar anywhere you go.

It's the city, why not have pics of the dirt huts outside of it or of the Kurdish hovels?

Bejing looks nice as well

Most of my best friends in college were from Iran. They were the best ... their Government was the worst, that's why they ended up staying in the US after graduation.

Iran is pretty modern ... with a lot of the modern world's conveniences and problems. Tehran is one of the most polluted cities in the world ...

Yeah the young people of Iran are cool, religion hasn't had a chance to sour and corrupt them yet

And not to mention the U.S.S.R. and Germany and China and Vietnam all have "nice" cities. Would I be caught dead living there?

Uhmm, no.

women, just don't been seen with any man other than your husband, and cover your ankles, less you have your face smashed in with a brick or be hanged.

Agree with the "nice" cities statement. Except the USSR doesn't exist any more ;)

That's Aimster's blog.

Iran is very pretty, but how does the lower class live? What does it look like when you get far away from the cities. Hell, Peyongyang doesn't look too bad, but people aren't lining up to move to North Korea.

Asia has some damn nice, shiny, and bustling cities. Unlike anything I've ever seen here in the States, except possibly NYC. Shanghai, HK, Taipei, Tokyo, etc. They're really nice and exciting to live in for the short term. I'd actually like to move to one of these places for a couple years (~2-3 yrs). But for the long haul, having grown up here, I think I'd probably still prefer the slow yet quiet, beautiful, and peaceful suburbs of California.

There is nothing wrong or inhibiting about those last two. Many very intelligent very productive very good people are anti-capitalist or anti-western. There's nothing inherently good about those two things.

As to Iran, I really enjoyed the book Persian Mirrors by Elaine Sciolino. Not saying it doesn't contain some biases, but it was quite an insight in general.
