Inside ATI & NVIDIA: How they make frames fly

Very cool! Thats a lot of harddrive space and computer processors nvidia has. Why did you not have any pictures for ATI ? Just curious.

ATi didn't allow us to take pictures, whereas NVIDIA allowed us to take pictures of virtually everything.

Maybe I missed the pictures? Where were the shots of the bugs being FIB'd on the NV30?
Thought it taped out?

great article, expecialy the nvidia part 🙂

the part where the ceo shows some boards, the top 10 reasons the pictures dont work

Cool article, I must say, it seems like nVidia is a bit more "relaxed" company, for lack of a better word.

Nice article, but I think a more appropriate title would be "Inside Nvidia - And An Explanation Of Chip Design And Testing By An ATI Engineer". There is nothing "inside" about ATI in there at all.

Yeah, seems nVidia dose not have much to hide, maybe ATI has something top secret :Q........, or maybe just a stick up their a**, ya never know. Good read for sure.

Maybe ATi doesn't want nVidia to know just how advanced or ghetto their little Canadian op is!

I personally think it's cool that they aren't giving anyone a leg up by letting them get a good look inside.

What leg up? Do you honestly think taking pictures of some servers and FIB tools will somehow hurt the company?

Maybe ATi lacks some tools, and therefore can't work out bugs such as the AGPx8 bug?

I was kidding damnit! 😀

It's another great article from AnandTech 🙂

Too bad you didn't recruit those lonely racks to work for the TeAm 😉

When I win the local lottery this is what I'm getting: link 😀

I don't know what ATi has or doesn't have! I just know that the competition between ATi and nVidia is like a high-stakes poker game. I can't blame ATi for trying to keep a straight face and hide its cards.

I think when they allow you to take pictures in an area off-limits to the general public, some one has gone over it beforehand to make sure nothing secret is visible.

It is interesting to see what these things look like in real-life.

Notice the Xbox on his desk: image. Oh... btw Mr. Jen-Hsun Huang, can I borrow your wallet? I promise to bring it back! 😉

Enlarge the "Top ten reasons to invest in Nvidia" picture.
Above the sign is some hand written stuff-

Trillion poly /s
Gazillion pixels /s
🙂
LMAO

Is that his office/desk? That would cool if it is as it looks really plain and average. He must be a humble guy.

Maybe ATI doesnt want Nvidia to get any inside tips/info on their ultra-top-secret-uber-elite driver development department. 😎

Mabye ATI didn't want people to see the monkey's that were working in their labs doing driver quality assurance. Maybe ATI didn't want you to find out that they actually use NVIDIA cards in their workstations so that they can have stable systems. Maybe they are just camera shy. 🙂

I'm not sure nvidia is a more relaxing atmosphere--one of my classmates in my EE classes interned there. He decided he didn't want to work there after that, lol. He wouldn't go into details (and maybe he couldn't), but he didn't seem like he really liked it that much. Looks can be VERY deceiving. The company I work for doesn't allow camera's inside--but they're super relaxed on pretty much everything.
