I used to work for a local power company and they had a fallout shelter / bunker system underneath their headquarters.

By the time I worked there though, it was no longer maintained as a shelter (although the signs were still up) but was turned into some offices and storage areas.

So who gets chosen to be saved. Big lottery? only 200 people get to survive.

In Switzerland, every person has a guaranteed spot in a shelter.

IIRC, any home constructed was legally required to include a bomb/fallout shelter for its residents.

This is Switzerland... they not only have enough shelter for everybody, but each family is also issued an assault rifle and sealed box of ammo at home, AND there are weapons cache located throughout the country.

Doesn't the same hold true for Middle Eastern countries as well? :)

Yeah, but the difference is that in Switzerland they don't start shooting at their neighbors for every little thing.

So you can shoot the nuclear radiation if it tried to attack you? I'm missing the point of relation.

Sometimes I wonder why we dont just redirect ATOT to digg.com since every story seems to come from there or exists there first and gets a copy/paste

This law is still valid (and the digg users who said otherwise are mistaken). Those who build houses who don't have a shelter pay a compensation.

Slightly incorrect, members of the army take their rifle with them when they go home (and 50 rounds) and since military service is compulsory, that are quite a few rifles. Add the guns that are used for sport and hunting to get the total number. As for weapons caches, I think Switzerland handles this like other armies. Back in WWII times there were many military hideouts and bunkers but the vast majority of them is no longer in use.
