Insanity Question (Cardio Abs)

My friend and I have been doing Insanity for a few weeks now...good lord that cardio is brutal. "Cardio Abs" has come up a couple times now, and therein lies my question: In that "C" position, my friend and I both feel like we're feeling far more muscular effort in our lower backs than in our abs. Some of the exercises definitely give a burn to the front side too, but I'm just wondering if we're not doing it right. Is it normal to feel like your lower back is exerting a decent amount when doing exercises in that position?

When people refer to the "core," it includes the abs and the back extensors. They are connected via fascial bands so many times they work in conjunction with one another to stabilize the trunk/spine. The C position may, in all honesty, be putting an excessive stress on your ligaments/discs (due to the lumbar spine flexion) and that may be why you feel it more too.
